Helen offers Yoga for children of all ages, it helps in a variety of ways including:

Increases general health and fitness levels, flexibility, strength, balance and co-ordination.

Keeps bones strong and correctly aligned, and the muscles around them supple and toned.

Calms the emotions, releases anxiety and helps children relax.

Encourages concentration, positive thinking, confidence, self-esteem and self-expression.

With Helens' background in gymnastics and being chosen for the British team at 14 years old it was then compulsory to train as a coach to give back to the sport. Therefore Helen has many years of experience of working with children. She pioneered the first pre-school gymnastics teaching techniques and was one of the voices on the first pre-school teaching cassette tapes. Yoga for children is very much like gymnastics for children, it is all about fun and learning how your body works and feels in different positions.

Children really benefit from understanding how their bodies feel energised from the postures and how they respond to breathing properly. The sessions are fun, stimulates their imagination and encourages children to work together and on their own. Unfortunately many of our children are stressed. Several studies have demonstrated a direct link between childhood stress and that of their parents. It's a simple matter of passing it down to and through our children. That is certainly not a trend you want to continue, so this is where yoga for children can come in.

Yoga for children is very different to yoga for adults, we can not expect children to sit still in the lotus position and focus on their breathing! Younger children are encouraged to imitate animals with postures and noises, the exercises vary between very energising and exciting to calming and quietening. We move through the postures and exercises much more quickly than we would with adults. The teaching is very spontaneous and goes with the mood of the children. Children are very open minded about things like yoga and exercise. They find fun in such activities, so it's a great time to start them off right in life - learning how to take time for spiritual and physical relaxation with yoga.

The sessions last between half an hour and an hour dependant on the age and number of children involved. Helen can work privately in her home or yours with your children or classes can be set up at their school.

Helen is not currently teaching any public yoga for children classes.
